Many of the tourist attractions of India are famous all over the world and a number of them have been declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. However, covering all the tourist attractions in a single tour is not possible, better you visit a particular state or city in a single tour. Here I am providing a brief overview of top ten tourist attractions of India.

A white marble monument, Taj Mahal was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1653 A.D. Shah Jahan constructed this monument in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. More than 20,000 labours worked day and night for 20 years to give Shah Jahan’s dream a beautiful shape. A World Heritage Site, Taj Mahal is a huge complex housing several magnificent structures. Taj Mahal complex has well-laid out gardens, a mosque and a prayer house. Just one km away from Taj Mahal, Agra Fort is another attraction of Agra. Khajuraho temples were built by the Chandela rulers during the 9th and 10th century AD. Originally there were 85 temples, but now 22 temples are present. Khajuraho temple complex has been divided into three categories namely – Western Group, Southern Group and Eastern Group. Ajanta and Ellora Caves (Aurangabad, Maharashtra) : Ajanta and Ellora Caves are located close to the Aurangabad city in Maharashtra. Discovered by John Smith, a British Army Officer in 1819, Ajanta and Ellora are visited by thousands of tourists every year from all over the world. Ajanta and Ellora are cave shrines cut out of rock and considered as amongst most outstanding specimens of ancient Indian architectural heritage. Ellora has 34 caves and situated at a distance of 30 kms from Aurangabad. Ellora caves were carved between 350 AD to 700 AD and depicting the three faiths of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. Ajanta is 100 kms away from Aurangabad and has 29 caves, which describe the history of Buddhism, from 200 BC to 650 AD.

Goa Beaches : One of the smallest states of India, Goa is also called the ‘beach paradise’. Set along the Arabian Sea, Goa’s 131 km long coastline is home to some of finest beaches of world. A World Heritage Site, Kaziranga National Park is famous all over the world for its ‘Great Indian One horned Rhinos.’ Set on the banks of the river Bhrahmaputra, Kaziranga spreads over an area of 480 sq. kms. Kaziranga National Park is flanked by beautiful lush tea gardens and tall elephant grass. In addition to Rhinos, you can spot Wild Buffalos, Swamp Deers, Wild Elephants and over 450 species of birds in Kaziranga National Park. Manas National Park is another important national park close to Kaziranga. Manas is also a World Heritage Site and houses One-horned Rhino, Red Panda, Hispid Hare, Pigmy Hog, Golden Langur and many other animal and bird species.
